What does a Strength & Stretch class look like?
A Strength & Stretch class is a 60-70 minute class that starts with an Aerobic warmup followed by three strength exercises that vary from class to class. We typically use hand weights, resistance bands or body weight. Next is a full-body stretch segment. Each class ends with a rest & relaxation period that includes guided imagery meditation.

Do I have to be flexible to do this class?
This class is not about being flexible but about starting where you are and improving your mobility from there.
-
I'm really out of shape. Will I be able to keep up?
This is not a competitive setting. I encourage participants to listen to their body and honor their limits and limitations.
-
Where do I purchase a yoga mat/block/strap?
You can either order these items on line or purchase them at any sporting goods store or in the sporting goods section of many big box stores. An old men’s tie or a bath rope belt make a good substitute for an actual yoga strap.

What is guided imagery meditation?
Guided imagery meditation is a relaxation technique. It involves concentrating on a certain object, sound or experience to calm the mind. It can lower blood pressure and help to reduce stress.
-
What should I wear to class?
Loose-fitting, comfortable clothes that move with the body are best. We start with an Aerobic warmup for which you should wear tennis shoes. Since we also stretch the feet, the remainder of the class should be done in socks or barefoot.

Can I eat before class?
Opinions and advice on this topic vary to some extent, however commonly accepted advice would be: if you want/need to eat before class, limit yourself to a small meal consisting of something like a piece of fruit, yoghurt, or a smoothie no less than 30 minutes before class. If you prefer to eat after a workout, a meal that includes particularly protein and carbs will help your body recover and adapt after exercise.
